Andy Reid, Chiefs Taking Patrick Mahomes Injury 'Day-By-Day'

In this story:
CINCINNATI — Chiefs head coach Andy Reid updated Patrick Mahomes's injury status on Monday.
Reid is optimistic Mahomes will play against the Bengals in the AFC championship game but may not practice this week.
"Andy Reid said that Patrick Mahomes' mindset right now is that he's going to play Sunday. Reid added that they're going to take it day by day," James Palmer tweeted. "Reid said this high ankle sprain is not as bad as the one in 2019. He's getting treatment and they'll take it day by day. Reid said Mahomes is planning to play. He's never played without practicing, but it appears that hasn't been ruled out if staying off it ends up the plan."
Mahomes suffered the sprain in the first half of Kansas City's win over Jacksonville this past weekend.
The lookahead game total was 53 points, but that's fallen to 46.5 points given the injury development.
Cincinnati fights Kansas City for a spot in the Super Bowl this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS. The game is available via fuboTV—start your free trial here.
