Nikola Jokić Gave Great Quote After Nuggets’ Blowout Loss to Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves absolutely lambasted the Denver Nuggets in Game 6 on Thursday night to force a Game 7. Nikola Jokić had 22 points and nine rebounds as his squad never recovered from a first quarter run by the Wolves and ultimately lost, 115-70.
It was a blowout of truly epic proportions and Jokić could only laugh about it after the game. He gave a great quote to reporters in his postgame presser, pointing out (while laughing) that Denver really had Minnesota on the ropes when they went up 9-2 in the first quarter.
After that 9-2 start, the Nuggets were outscored 29-5 over the remainder of the first quarter. They entered the second quarter down by 17 points and obviously were never able to close the gap.
Fans might want to see more frustration after that kind of defeat in that kind of moment, but this is the best attitude for the three-time MVP to take. A 45-point loss at this stage in the playoffs doesn't come down to a few mistakes. It was 48 minutes of every single thing possible going wrong for the Nuggets and every single thing possible going right for the Timberwolves.
Which should not take away from the monumental win Minnesota pulled off or the fact that Denver came out like this with a shot at putting away the series. But it's pretty likely this doesn't happen again, at least not to this extent. So no real reason for the Joker to lose sleep over it.
However joking he might've been, though, he definitely didn't seem pleased with the game winding down. Jokić spent the entire fourth quarter standing on the baseline and gazing out onto the court as his team managed to score all of nine points in the last 12 minutes.
Jokić and the Nuggets will have their last chance for revenge on Sunday in Game 7 against the Timberwolves.
