Giants pitcher Matt Cain could be done for the season, as General Manager Brian Sabean said Saturday that the three-time All-Star has not been improving in his rehab for right elbow inflammation and would not say whether he would pitch again, Alex Pavlovic of The Mercury News tweeted.

Giants acquire Peavy from Red Sox, but how much will he really help?

The news comes just days after the 29-year-old landed on the disabled list again this year because of the inflamed elbow. He's 2-7 with a career-worst 4.18 ERA in 15 games. Sabean said it's up to the doctors as to whether the Giants should expect him back, according to Pavlovic.

Cain, who won two World Series with the Giants, is making $20 million this year, the middle of his $140 million eight-year deal.
