In his first interview since being fired by the Rams, Jeff Fisher told Fox’s Charissa Thompson that he simply “didn’t win enough games.”

Fisher was fired Monday after amassing a 31-45-1 record in five seasons with the team. His dismissal came just over a week after he signed a contract extension

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Dec. 4 that Fisher had signed a two-year extension. The extension had long been rumored to be on the way and he agreed to the deal during the preseason but did not actually sign the contract until recently, according to Rapoport. Rams COO Kevin Demoff told Pro Football Talk on Nov. 27 that Fisher had not yet signed an extension.

In his interview with Thompson, Fisher was critical of how the Rams handled news of his contract status.

“It was never my place to announce the extension, so somehow it got out,” Fisher said. “None of it was handled appropriately, in my opinion. In this day and age, the successful teams in the National Football League are tight-knit. They work together and they stay quiet. They don’t leak things. And that was a frustration of mine.”
