Baylor’s Jake Burton Gets Tryout with Kansas City Chiefs
On Tuesday, former Baylor Bears offensive lineman Jake Burton was brought in for a tryout with the Kansas City Chiefs.
In 2021, the 6-6, 312-pound Burton signed an undrafted free agent deal with the New York Giants and was invited to training camp in hopes of garnering a spot on an NFL roster.
Although that NFL dream was briefly placed on hold after not making the cut with the Giants, Burton was selected by the Stars in the seventh round of the 2022 USFL Draft.
This past season for Philadelphia, Burton appeared in nine games and started in eight contests.
Burton, who transferred to Baylor as a graduate student from UCLA, started the last eight games of the 2020 season for the Bears at right guard.
Before his time with the Bears, Burton spent four years at UCLA and played in 29 games at right tackle in his collegiate career with the Bruins.
He started 23 of 24 games at right tackle during the 2018 and 2019 seasons at UCLA after entering the program as a defensive lineman before switching to the offensive line in the spring of 2017.
In high school, ESPN listed Burton as a three-star recruit and was No. 76 on the California 100 list by Rivals.com.
As a senior at Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, California, he garnered 63 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and six sacks. He also lettered in basketball, track and volleyball.
