Cincinnati Bearcats Hosting Virginia Tech In 2023 NIT

The program hasn't played in the tournament since 2009-10.

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bearcats got selected to host a first-round game in the 2023 NIT. UC is welcoming Virginia Tech on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET in the 4-5 seed game.

Head coach Wes Miller said he would like to play in the event if the players are up for it. One day after the Houston loss, the season rolls on.

UC has not played in the event since 2009-10. Landers Nolley II led Memphis to the 2021 NIT Title and was the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. The Bearcats have made 10 NIT appearances, with no championships.

UC and Va Tech have faced off 30 times in the school's history. UC's gone 12-18 in those matchups. The Hokies enter the game ranked 81st on KenPom.

The winner on Wednesday plays the winner of Rutgers-Hoftsra.

The program's best NIT finish happened in 1955 when it made the third-place game.

Mick Cronin led the last trip to the NIT back in 2010, before rattling off nine consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.
