Ahmad 'Sauce' Gardner Goes Earlier Than Ever in Latest Mock Draft

The 21-year-old is considered the top cornerback in the 2022 draft class.

CINCINNATI — Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner has a chance to make history.

The 21-year-old cornerback could end up being the highest player selected from the University of Cincinnati in NFL Draft history.

Greg Cook currently holds that crown after the Bengals took him fifth overall in the 1969 draft.

Gardner is considered the top cornerback in this class and does make history in Mike Tannenbaum's latest mock draft for ESPN. The Lions take him with the No. 2 overall pick.

"If I'm Detroit, I'm crossing my fingers that Jacksonville goes another way, leaving Hutchinson for an easy win here at No. 2. That's not how things happened, though," Tannenbaum wrote. "And yes, I know the Lions used the No. 3 overall pick on cornerback Jeff Okudah just two years ago, but I also know he has ended up on injured reserve in both of his pro seasons and has been limited to 10 total games. The Lions gave up the NFL's third-best opponent QBR (53.4) last year and still need a corner. Gardner didn't surrender more than 13 yards in a game or a single TD all season in 2021."

Gardner's stock continues to rise. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Lions, Texans, Jets or Giants take him [with picks 2-5] in the top five of the 2022 NFL Draft.
