Ja'Marr Chase: Sauce Gardner 'Likes to Talk A Lot'

The marquee WR-CB matchup took center stage on Sunday.

CINCINNATI — New York Jets rookie cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner had the first of hopefully many career battles against Ja'Marr Chase on Sunday and it brought out plenty of fireworks.

The two mixed it up on a long pass that Gardner broke up and jawed at one another throughout the afternoon.

"I was just thinking about going against Ja'Marr Chase the whole time," Gardner said about the marquee matchup. "Everybody says he's the best, I was just ready for it."

Chase had some nice thoughts about the battle as well.

"He was good overall, you know what I'm saying?" Chase said describing Gardner. "A good corner. He likes to talk a lot, so he thought I wasn't going to talk a lot, so he definitely liked talking.

Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins bested Sauce a few times in coverage, but the Jets did a nice job overall on Chase, who finished with six catches for 29 yards and one touchdown. The yardage total is Chase's third-lowest mark of his young career.

The Jets now travel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Fans can watch on CBS via fuboTV—start your free trial here.
