Jerome Ford Tired of Being Called 'the Alabama Transfer'

The UC running back transferred from Alabama in 2019.

CINCINNATI — UC running back Jerome Ford told members of the media on Monday that he doesn't want to be labeled "the Alabama transfer."

Ford transferred from Cincinnati's Cotton Bowl opponent in 2019 following two seasons with the Crimson Tide.

“I’m thankful for everything Coach Saban did for me and the opportunity to play at Alabama. But I’m a Bearcat, and I would kind of appreciate it if people stopped calling me ‘the Alabama transfer.’ I am a Cincinnati Bearcat," Ford said as the team prepares for the game on Friday.

Ford is one of the greatest running backs in Cincinnati history, rushing for 1,242 yards so far in 2021. His 19 rushing touchdowns ranked sixth nationally, while his 20 touchdowns overall ranked third. The total marks tied school records set by Michael Warren in 2018. Ford would love to etch his name above the rest in Cincinnati's record books against his former team.

UC has leaned on its running game (0.19 EPA/carry, eighth nationally) to forge its path to the College Football Playoff, and they'll need every bit of Ford's 6.2 career yards per carry to pull the upset.

The Bearcats face Alabama in the Cotton Bowl at 3:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
