Report: LSU Football Targeting UC Offensive Coordinator Mike Denbrock

Denbrock has coached in Cincinnati since 2017.

CINCINNATI — New LSU head coach Brian Kelly is finalizing his picks for offensive and defensive coordinator with a prominent UC coach in mind. According to Football Scoop's John Brice, Kelly is targeting Cincinnati OC Mike Denbrock to join his staff.

Denbrock and Kelly have a deep working relationship going back to the former's time under Kelly as an assistant at Notre Dame from 2010-16. He worked in a variety of roles, including tight ends coach (2010-11), outside receivers/passing game coordinator (2012-13), offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach (2014), and the associate head coach/wide receivers coach (2015-16).

Denbrock has been with Cincinnati since 2017, the first year of the Luke Fickell era. He also coached alongside Kelly at Grand Valley State in the mid-90s.

Sources tell Brice that if Denbrock does leave, he would fulfill his duties towards the Bearcats playoff goals first. Brice listed Georgia OC Todd Monken as another candidate but said that Monken prefers to stay in Athens.

Cincinnati is less than two weeks away from its Cotton Bowl matchup with Alabama. The New Year's Eve affair kicks of at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
