National College Football Writer Paints 'Probable' CFP Path for Bearcats

Cincinnati puts their 10-0 record on the line Saturday afternoon against SMU.

CINCINNATI — At least one national college football writer believes the Bearcats path into the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings is "probably a more likely scenario than not."

Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger dove into UC's chances in his latest article on this week's CFP rankings.

"Cincinnati remained in place at No. 5," Dellenger wrote. "Well positioned to jump into the top four if any of the four in front of it stumble. And that’s probably a more likely scenario than not. No. 3 Oregon has to play Utah twice, and No. 2 Alabama gets Georgia in the SEC championship game. No. 4 Ohio State, meanwhile, has two top-10 teams left on the schedule in Michigan and Michigan State (though one of those three Big Ten teams will likely be in the top four if they ultimately win the Big Ten with one loss)."

The committee ranked Houston No. 24 this week. So, if the top two teams in the AAC standings win out, UC will have a chance to add another ranked victory in the AAC Championship Game.

Although, they'll have to stay perfect first, starting this weekend in their final home game of the regular season against SMU.
