Recruiting Roundup: UC Offers Four-Star 2024 QB; Multiple Hometown Heroes

CINCINNATI — The first weekend of June is a loaded time for Bearcats football with official visits and more offers breaking left and right. We start with an offer to four-star quarterback 2024 quarterback Mabrey Mettauer out of Woodlands (Texas).

According to On3 consensus, Mettauer is the 278th-ranked player in the class and the 21st-best QB. He holds 17 offers and is closely linked to LSU (41.4%). Cincinnati is among a group of teams with a 1.2% chance of signing him.
Mettauer has all the makings of a solid college quarterback in today's game. He's a tough runner with an unteachable knack for escaping pressure while keeping his eyes downfield for big plays. His arm strength is adequate to make most throws and he plays on time in the Woodlands system. He rarely wastes moments in play-action and operates well in a fast tempo. Check out his highlights here.
Things continue with an offer to three-star 2023 cornerback Cameron Calhoun out of Winton Woods (Ohio).
According to On3 consensus, Calhoun is the 703rd-ranked recruit nationally and the 67th-ranked cornerback. He is currently committed to West Virginia, but On3 has them way on the outside at this moment. All things point to Kentucky (97.6%) stealing him before the next signing day.
Winton Woods plays a heavy amount of off-coverage, which allows Calhoun to showcase his speed closing on the ball. The ball skills on film are impressive—he tracks the pigskin well on high arcing throws and ropes. Calhoun is also a decent form tackler that will continue growing those skills in a college weight room. Check out his highlights here.
Cincinnati offered another Hometown Hero in three-star 2023 wide receiver Ben Minich out of Lakota West (Ohio).
After a great talk with @CoachHitsch I am extremely BLESSED and THANKFUL to have received an offer from the University of Cinicinnati 🐾 @UC_Recruiting @CoachTomBolden pic.twitter.com/FDHkKvirfJ
— Ben Minich (@BenMinich) June 3, 2022
According to 247Sports, Minich is the 44th-ranked athlete nationally and the 15th-best prospect in Ohio. He holds offers from 20 schools, but On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine has Cincinnati (79.3%) leading the way already. No other school is above 6.3% as of this writing.
Checking the tape, Minich can be a chameleon for Cincinnati. A majority of his highlights came as a slot corner/safety hybrid for Lakota West. He has tremendous tackling toughness in the open field and should be a Day One contributor on special teams if he stays home. Oh, and the receiving skills aren't shabby either. Minich could be a nice weapon in the slot and shows breakaway speed at the second and third level.
The offers round out with four-star 2024 linebacker Garrett Stover out of Big Walnut (Ohio).
According to On3 consensus, Stover is the 150th ranked player in the class and the 13th-ranked linebacker. He now has 13 offers and is heavily favored to attend Ohio State (98.1%).
Angles, angles, angles are the name of Stover's game at Big Walnut. He is a heady player that plays the game at a cerebral level on defense. His pursuit angles in the open field can't get much better. That and he's already implementing a knack for punching the ball loose on those pursuits. Add in a nasty edge on special teams, and you get an enticing prospect if he changes his mind about the Scarlet and Gray.
Check out some other nuggets from the night of practice at Nippert on Thursday, including Tayvion Galloway showing why he's one of the best tight end prospects in his class.
Hell of a night ! UC = AMAZING as always. @LorenzoHudsonJ1 @Jr2Maine @officially_cam @TayvionGalloway @IHaithcock30 @itdarrengammell @NateLetton @DB_CoachCoombs pic.twitter.com/Rt58QSaa5i
