Cleveland Browns War Room Reaction Going Viral After Drafting Shedeur Sanders In NFL Draft

The Cleveland Browns NFL Draft war room reaction is going viral after drafting former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry looks less than thrilled. During the NFL pre-draft process, Sanders was often linked to the Browns.

To get Sanders, the Browns traded up with the Seattle Seahawks to select the former Colorado Buffaloes star with the 144th overall pick in the fifth round Saturday. In return, Cleveland gave Seattle its 166th and 192nd picks.

Berry gave insight into why the Browns traded up for Sanders when they already drafted former Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

"We talk often, about quarterback being the most important position in the sport," Berry sais about drafted Sanders. "We obviously spend a lot of time with Shedeur throughout the process. He's highly accurate, can play well from the pocket, very productive college career. And we felt like it wasn't necessarily the plan going into the weekend to select two quarterbacks."

"But as we talked about, we do believe in best player available. We do believe in positional value and we didn't necessarily expect him to be available in the fifth round. And so we love adding competition to every position room and adding him to compete with the guys that are already in there. We felt like that was the appropriate thing to do."

During the NFL pre-draft process, Sanders was often linked to the Browns. Cleveland had shown considerable interest in Sanders, interviewing him at the NFL Combine,͏ attending his pro day at͏ ͏Colorado, working him out privately and hosting him for a private dinner.

Gabriel and Shedeur now have a chance to compete for the starting job, joining a Browns quarterback room with 17-year veteran Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett

Interesting to compare Berry's comments on Saturday to his Friday night comments after drafting Gabriel, the Heisman trophy finalist, while Sanders was still on the board. A bit of foreshadowing from Berry.

"You know what? I think it's unfair for me to comment, on behalf of the industry," said Berry about Shedeur's draft fall after the third round of the draft. "All I can say is this. The time that we spent with Shedeur and what he's done throughout his college career is impressive. He's an impressive young man. He's a really good quarterback. Sometimes fit comes into play."

"I'd also say this. There are four more rounds of the draft. And then maybe lastly, it's less about where you get picked and what you do after you get picked. That's really the most important thing. And getting to know him over the course of the spring, he has a ton of resolve. And I think he's going to find himself in a really good spot," Berry continued.

Sanders elected not to attend the NFL Draft in Green Bay. At the Sanders family's draft gathering at their home in Texas, Shedeur and his family danced in celebration as he got the call from the Browns. Shedeur then had a message for the Browns organization.

“Thank you everybody... Thank you to the Browns organization for giving me a chance, that's all I need,” said Shedeur on Twitch livestream."It's perfect timing... You gotta remain positive and stay happy at all times. I knew the whole time that God had me, so I wasn't really panicking because I knew he has perfect timing."
