Why Fans Should Expect a Heavy Dose of Gunner Stockton and Carson Beck on G-Day

With G-Day fastly approaching, here's why fans should expect quarterbacks Carson Beck and Gunner Stockton to have major roles in the Bulldogs' offense this Saturday.

After nearly four months of waiting, the Georgia Bulldogs will finally return to Sanford Stadium for their spring scrimmage, better known as G-Day. The scrimmage will serve as fan’s first opportunity to catch the Bulldogs' 2024 roster in action.

Of the many players and positions that fans are excited to see, the quarterbacks on the Dawgs’ roster are amongst the most highly anticipated rooms to watch on Saturday. As quarterback Carson Beck will be returning off of a wildly successful 2023 season while Gunner Stockton will be taking numerous reps as the team’s backup.

Luckily for Georgia fans, the two quarterbacks are likely to be heavily featured throughout Georgia’s scrimmage. This is likely due to a handful of reasons…

Passing Causes Fewer Injuries

While Georgia has always emphasized having a strong run game, the high frequency of running the ball in an inter-squad scrimmage significantly raises the possibility of a player suffering an injury. And since everyone on the field this Saturday will be a member of the red and black, any injury is a bad injury.

The QB Room is Limited

Kirby Smart has repeatedly stated this offseason that the Bulldogs are looking to add a fourth scholarship quarterback to the room. Indicating that Georgia’s quarterback room is thinner than the Dawgs would like it to be. On top of this, freshman Ryan Puglisi has been limited with a minor lower-body injury. Which could mean we see even more of Stockton and Beck.

The Wide Receivers Need the Reps

The Bulldogs have added a fairly large number of new faces to their wide receiver room over the past two seasons with even more additions coming this offseason via the transfer portal. Numerous reps for the wide outs in a scrimmage setting will be crucial to ensuring the offense is firing on all cylinders by the time the regular season starts.
