Notre Dame Recruiting Roundup - August 28th

In this story:
With the Notre Dame season officially underway, recruiting is still prevalent but it has obviously taken a slight backseat to the live action each Saturday. With that excitement for Irish football, including the team’s 42 to 3 victory over Navy this past weekend, I have added some team analysis to my plate.
It was an incredibly busy past week, with a lot to discuss both recruiting and from the team side. Let’s take a look at the latest, including what you may have missed.
NOTRE DAME WIN OVER NAVY
Heading into the game, Irish Breakdown did its absolute best to provide the readers and listeners with as much in depth understanding of the Navy as possible. That started with speaking with one of the best Notre Dame players in recent memory in defending the triple option, former Irish linebacker Greer Martini.
Obviously playing the triple option does present some challenges. Prior to the game, I highlighted a couple key matchups that could help to decide the football game. I also looked at a couple offensive matchups Notre Dame must win. The offensive line matchup I listed was especially important.
Even before really dissecting the matchup, there was no questioning who the more talented team was. When you take a deeper look at the recruiting resumes, the talent gap becomes even more apparent.
RECRUITING NEWS
Here is the recent Notre Dame recruiting news from this past week.
High school football is officially back! There was a long list of Irish commits who were in action. That started on Thursday night with 2024 quarterback commit CJ Carr and wide receiver Logan Saldate.
Both players were very, very impressive. I even broke down Carr’s performance on the Irish Breakdown premium message board.
On Friday, Saturday and even Sunday, nearly ever Irish recruit in the 2024 and 2025 classes were in action. It was a long list of impressive performances, highlighting how bright the future of the program really is.
During an exclusive interview with Taliuta Viliamu-Asa, the mother of 2024 Notre Dame linebacker commit Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, she went in depth on everything involved with her son’s recruitment. That includes Kyngstonn’s background as an athlete and his start as a football player. It is a fascinating background.
Tight end recruiting in the 2025 class is a fascinating conversation right now. Among the names to know, California standout AJ Ia is a player who has reconnected with Notre Dame recently. The staff is working hard to try to get him on campus this season.
