Oregon Ducks Make Push for Four-Star Quarterback Recruit

In this story:
EUGENE – The Oregon Ducks resumed their spring practices on Tuesday after students returned from spring break. With the spring season underway again, the program also saw more recruiting targets visit campus.
Among the visitors that coach Dan Lanning and his staff saw during the first week of April was 2027 four-star quarterback Jake Nawrot.
Oregon Ducks Impress Standout Quarterback Recruit

Nawrot is ranked the No. 2 quarterback by Rivals and the No. 32 player in the 2027 class. The quarterback threw for 3,078 yards and 41 touchdowns, which rushing for eight touchdowns for John Hersey High School in 2025.
He posted pictures alongside the Oregon offensive staff at Autzen Stadium following his visit on March 31. Nawrot opened up about his visit during an interview with Steve Wiltfong of Rivals. The Ducks seemingly caught his attention.

“I loved Coach Lanning and every other coach that I was with,” Nawrot told Wiltfong. “Coach Koa (Kaiai), coach (Jay) Johnson, coach (Drew) Mehringer were also amazing. But I really loved watching Dante Moore and how he goes through his day and operates to play at such a high level.”
Moore leads a Ducks quarterback room that also consists of Nebraska Cornhuskers transfer Dylan Raiola, Eugene local Brock Thomas and legacy quarterback Akili Smith Jr. The quarterbacks are gearing up for the team’s Spring Game on Apr. 25.
Teams Leading the Way in Quarterback Jake Nawrot’s Recruitment

Nawrot’s father, Paul Nawrot, was a former walk-on linebacker for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Big Ten program is among the competition the Ducks face for Nawrot’s commitment.
Oregon extended an offer to Nawrot rather recently, back on March 16. Living in Illinois, Nawrot has taken several unofficial visits with the Purdue Boilermakers. The Washington Huskies, Wisconsin Badgers, Northwestern Wildcats and Rutgers Scarlet Knights are the other Big Ten schools to offer Nawrot.
The elite quarterback has other visits scheduled in April, including with Iowa on Apr. 4 and Washington on Apr. 7.
Why Four-Star Quarterback Jake Nawrot Would Be a Huge Addition

While landing a blue-chip quarterback recruit isn’t necessarily an absolute must for the Ducks, it would fulfill a big need. The program has struggled over the past five years when it comes to recruiting, keeping and developing quarterback talent.
Two of Oregon’s recent quarterback commits in the past couple of seasons, 2026 quarterback Bryson Beaver and 2025 quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, briefly enrolled at Oregon before transferring ahead of their respective true freshman seasons. The three starting quarterbacks in the Lanning coaching era all began their careers with different programs.
Securing a commitment from a quarterback like Nawrot would prove to doubters that the Ducks can also develop recruits into starting quarterbacks. Will Mencl, who’s considered a five-star and the No. 1 quarterback by Rivals, was predicted to be the 2027 quarterback to end up in Eugene for a while.
Even though the Ducks are still very much in the mix to land Mencl, the Auburn Tigers are gaining momentum. If Mencl doesn’t commit to Oregon, that could make it even more likely that Nawrot decides to join the Ducks.
