The 2025 freshman class played a critical role in the success that the Oregon Ducks had last season. With another top-five recruiting class entering the fold, the question becomes which true freshmen will be able to make an impact right away for the Ducks.

A group of freshmen has already begun turning heads at the end of fall camp Week 3, through practice highlights and praise they’ve earned from the coaching staff.

Receiver Jalen Lott

Receiver Dakorien Moore played a crucial role for Oregon right away last season, entering as a five-star recruit. While Jalen Lott similarly enters as the Ducks’ top receiver recruit in the 2026 class, he comes into a different situation than Moore, with a healthy receiver room.

But Lott still seems to be pushing in fall camp, with the opportunity to play snaps early. Of the weekly highlight clips that the Ducks post from practice on social media, a handful have showcased athletic plays from Lott.

The five-star has additionally earned compliments from both his coaches and quarterback Dante Moore. Moore mentioned during his Aug. 18 press conference that Lott has been having extra film meetings with coaches and even gets extra work in with him after practice.

“He’s someone that’s gonna be very special for this program,” Moore said.

Edge Rusher Anthony ‘Tank’ Jones

While Lott gained buzz right away in the first week of fall camp, another gem from coach Dan Lanning’s recruiting class who’s now drawing attention is Anthony ‘Tank’ Jones.

Jones is a five-star edge rusher who has the opportunity to rise as an important rotational piece on the defensive line. Defensive line coach Tony Tuioti expressed excitement for what Jones can bring to the unit and added that he has position flexibility.

In Week 3 of camp, both Tuioti and Lanning brought up Jones’ transformation in the weight room, now up to 300 pounds. Even though Tuioti said he’s still growing into his body, the staff’s recent praise hints that Jones could find himself in a position to play impactful snaps in 2026.

“It was really clear early to us, that this guy's going to be a guy that's going to be bigger, and let's not limit that because we need big guys that have explosive power and quickness like him,” Lanning said. “And he's a guy that can be outside, inside, and that variety is really good for us.”

“Now he's really embraced the role of being inside, and he's a guy that I think can make an impact and be a guy who can play snaps for us this year if he continues to grow the way he's been growing so far,” he added.

Offensive Linemen Tommy Tofi and Immanuel Iheanacho

Oregon lost three of its five starters from an offensive line that was a finalist for the Joe Moore Award last season. Lanning mentioned at the beginning of fall camp that the program might rotate six to eight players on the offensive line.

It might be an uphill battle for the true freshmen to earn consistent starting roles with more experienced players in the room. But with a larger rotation, the Ducks might be keen on developing the future of the unit with game experience, especially considering what Immanuel Iheanacho and Tommy Tofi have already shown in fall camp.

“Speaking to Manny and Tommy, they have come out hitting the ground running. They’re both, like I said earlier in spring, physically gifted,” offensive line coach A’lique Terry said. “They love the game. They’re constantly with each other … They know their role could end up being much larger later on. As much as they put in it, could maybe happen earlier. Who knows.”

Cornerback Davon Benjamin

Cornerback Brandon Finney Jr. exploded onto the college football scene as a true freshman in 2025, stepping into an immediate starting role. Finney returns, but there’s opportunity for starting roles alongside him in the secondary.

Transfer Carl Williams IV and returning defensive back Na’eem Offord have gained attention for those roles early – but could another freshman surprise by stepping in the starting lineup?

Cornerback Davon Benjamin has helped his case by displaying position versatility and seemingly putting in extra effort to learn as Finney did in 2025.

“He's played primarily STAR for us in fall, but he's learned some other positions as well,” Lanning said. “He's able to move around. I'll say this: the guy's really hungry to learn. He spends every minute in extra meetings, extra time.”

“He's, again, he's one of those guys that's obsessed with football and has a great skill set, and he's definitely going to be able to help us,” he continued. “And as he continues to learn more and more, the more he grows, the more he'll be able to help his team.”
