Former Gamecock Kicker Signs With AFC West Team

South Carolina's Football program has seen an uptick in NFL production in the 21st century, with 74 Gamecocks drafted since 2000. One underlying trend largely unnoticed throughout this stretch is how well South Carolina has developed kickers. Four different Gamecock kickers have been on an NFL roster at some point in the past 14 years, a group that includes Super Bowl Champion Ryan Succop, former Browns punter Spencer Lanning, and the top two all-time scorers in South Carolina Football history in Parker White and Elliott Fry.
Fry, in particular, was beloved by Gamecock nation due to his reliability on the field and his status on the team. Despite his success in college, Elliott hasn't been able to find stable ground in the NFL, having been on the practice squad for seven different franchises, most recently the Arizona Cardinals, and the active roster for three others. On Wednesday, however, Fry got some positive news regarding his professional prospects, as the Denver Broncos signed him to their roster.

Denver cut veteran Brandon McManus last week and didn’t have another kicker on the roster. So, Fry – who has appeared in three NFL games – now sits atop the depth chart.
As mentioned in the tweet by NFL Insider Tom Pelissero, Fry will have big shoes to fill at Mile High, as McManus connected on 80.8 percent of his 240 field goal attempts throughout his time in Denver. With only three starts to his name, Fry must work quickly to cement himself with the Broncos in 2023.
He becomes the second Gamecock to join the Broncos this offseason, with former tight end Nate Adkins signing a UDFA deal after the NFL Draft. Fry also joins a group of former South Carolina stars like Stephon Gilmore, Hayden Hurst, and Dennis Daley, all of whom have found a new NFL home this offseason.
