Holmon Wiggins Excited About ‘Good Pieces’ In Texas A&M Running Back Room

Holmon Wiggins, the newly promoted coach, spoke to the media as fall camp is now underway with good things to say about the running backs.

Texas A&M has a new offensive coordinator. It’s Holmon Wiggins, who was promoted from within and is going to be the official playcaller going into this 2026-27 season.

From how all his players and coaches have been raving about him, he was the right pick for the position and has all the assets needed to have a successful offense.

Head coach Mike Elko will rely on Wiggins a ton to help develop these men, and he has stated multiple times that he has plenty of confidence in what he can do with this group, as Wiggins is already seeing the vision with what he has going into this highly anticipated season.

“We have some really good pieces,” Wiggins said. “I'm excited about them. We're five days into camp, and we're starting to figure some things out.”

Stable Components

Even though Wiggins was very familiar with this unit since he already was the wide receivers and offensive coordinator, there are plenty of areas he is still trying to work out as each day progresses with multiple competitions unfolding in multiple rooms.

One of those he is eyeing closely is the running back room, especially since he is getting back the projected No. 1 running back on the depth chart this year, Reuben Owens. Wiggins has noticed the work he has put in and knows how hard he is trying to be the best version of himself that he can be, even with competition behind him hungry to be fed the football.

“Rueben cares,” Wiggins said. “He has an idea of what he sees himself to be, and he didn't play to that standard. This spring, this summer and in fall camp, he has put himself in a good spot. There's competition all over the place. The biggest thing for us is making sure we run the ball consistently."

Behind him are numerous pieces to this five-headed monster running back room that are all going to be asked to contribute to this offense and must be ready at any given time. It is shaping up to be a very deep unit that will see reps with Jamarion Morrow and Tiger Riden Jr., who are expected to leap forward along with two underrated stars in Carsyn Baker and KJ Edwards.

“You talk about the 'stable' as a collective,” Wiggins said. “That's a tremendous group.”
