LIV Golf Opens Its First Midseason Trading Period

With seven events remaining, LIV teams can look to strengthen their four-man rosters.

The LIV Golf League is halfway through its 14-event schedule and will allow its teams to shake things up over the next month.

The league announced it has opened its first midseason trade window in which teams can negotiate straight-up moves with another team.

LIV Golf has 13 teams with four members on each squad that play for a team title each week along with a season-ending Team Championship.

According to the announcement, both teams need to be in an agreement and modifications to player contracts cannot take place. But players in the final year of a contract with their team can negotiate an extension during this window.

“As LIV Golf grows, the League will continue to establish opportunities to strengthen the competition,” said Greg Norman, LIV’s commissioner, in a statement. “By opening a trade window midway through the season, all 13 teams have an opportunity to fine-tune their rosters and assess their team’s composition and performance. LIV Golf is delivering another exciting opportunity for professional golf that aligns with the traditions of many team sports around the globe, promoting strategic player moves and enriched team storylines.”

LIV saw several player moves last offseason. For example, Harold Varner III was traded from Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats team to Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces in exchange for Peter Uihlein. Watson also acquired Matthew Wolff from Smash GC with Brooks Koepka’s team getting Talor Gooch.

Also, because Carlos Ortiz finished among the top 24 in the season points list, he was able to opt for free agency and sign with Torque GC. With an open spot on the Fireballs roster, captain Sergio Garcia signed free agent David Puig.

Again this year, a player who finishes in the top 24 through the final individual event will secure a spot in the 2025 league. Players who finish from 25th to 48th are in what’s called the Open Zone. If their contract is up, they will need to be re-signed by their team or picked up by another team. Players who finish 49th and below are relegated (aside from contracted captains) out of the league and would need to qualify via the LIV Golf Promotions event.

LIV’s next event is June 7-9 in Houston.
