Here's an updated look at the San Diego Section rankings to open 2024 following the various holiday basketball events.

SBLive’s San Diego Section high school boys basketball rankings are compiled by SBLive California reporter Bodie DeSilva and will be released each week throughout the 2023-24 season.

1. Carlsbad (14-2)

Next game: 1/8 vs. Francis Parker

Last week: 1

Carlsbad lost to Montgomery in the tip off night of the Holiday Classic but regrouped to take the National Division with four straight wins. They'll host Francis Parker on Monday night before diving into Coastal League play with games against Torrey Pines and La Costa Canyon later in the week.

2. Montgomery (16-2)

Next game: 1/10 vs. Otay Ranch

Last week: 2

Montgomery beat Carlsbad at tip off night of the Holiday Classic and proceeded to go 2-2 in bracket play, losing to two of California's best teams, Archbishop Mitty and JSerra. The Aztecs cruised to three wins over San Diego Section opponents last week and will open Mesa League play on Wednesday.

3. St. Augustine (15-3)

Next game: 1/9 at Santa Fe Christian

Last week: 3

St. Augustine took third place in the National Division of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic, beating Archbishop Mitty at the buzzer, 57-55. The Saints beat Loyola on Saturday at Crypto.com Arena and will play two top 10 teams in Santa Fe Christian and Cathedral Catholic this week.

4. Torrey Pines (13-4)

Next game: 1/9 at Carlsbad

Last week: 4

Torrey Pines went 2-2 in the National Division of the Holiday Classic, losing to Santa Margarita 66-60 in the consolation championship game. They'll open up Coastal League play with a trip to top-ranked Carlsbad on Tuesday.

5. Santa Fe Christian (12-5)

Next game: 1/9 vs. St. Augustine

Last week: 8

The Eagles have won eight of their last nine games, most recently beating La Jolla Country Day 69-67 in overtime on Saturday night. They'll play three games in four days this week, beginning with a non-league matchup against St. Augustine.

6. La Jolla Country Day (13-5)

Next game: 1/10 vs. Escondido Charter

Last week: 5

La Jolla Country Day dropped their first road league game on Saturday to Santa Fe Christian, 69-67. Their lone game of the week will have them hosting Escondido Charter on Wednesday.

7. La Costa Canyon (11-3)

Next game: 1/9 vs. Sage Creek

Last week: NR

The Mavericks won the Senator's Division of the Holiday Classic, beating Long Beach-St. Anthony in the championship game to stretch their winning streak to 10 games. They'll be back on the floor Tuesday to open up Coastal League play.

8. Mission Hills (12-6)

Next game: 1/10 vs. Ramona

Last week: NR

Following a 4-6 start, Mission Hills has won eight straight games, capturing the championship of the Mt. Carmel Holiday tournament. The favorites in the Palomar League will open up the league play slate with two home games this week.

9. San Marcos (13-4)

Next game: 1/10 at Rancho Bernardo

Last week: 9

San Marcos went 2-2 during their trip to Hawaii after Christmas. They'll start the Palomar League with three straight road games, beginning Wednesday at Rancho Bernardo.

10. Cathedral Catholic (13-5)

Next game: 1/9 at San Diego

Last week: 7

The Dons took third place in Mt. Carmel's holiday tournament. The Dons seized back-to-back last second victories over Mission Bay and Leuzinger, winning twice in less than 24 hours. Road games in the Western League are set for St. Augustine and San Diego this week.
