CLEVELAND (AP) The Indians agreed to one-year contracts with outfielder Brandon Moss, right-hander Bryan Shaw and right-hander Josh Tomlin on Friday, avoiding arbitration a year after they had two cases go to hearings.

Cleveland reached deals with all six of its players in arbitration. The Indians agreed with right-hander Carlos Carrasco ($2,337,500), left-hander Marc Rzepczynski ($2.4 million) and third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall ($2.25 million) on Thursday.

Last year, the Indians ended up in arbitration hearings with Tomlin and pitcher Vinnie Pestano, winning both cases. Those were their first arbitration cases since 1991. Tomlin was awarded $800,000.

Tomlin will get $1.5 million this year. Moss agreed to a $6.5 million deal and Shaw will get $1.55 million.

Tomlin went 6-9 with a 4.76 ERA in 16 starts and nine relief appearances. General manager Chris Antonetti said on Friday that Tomlin will come to spring training ready to try to win a spot in the rotation.

''His first opportunity will be to compete for a spot in the rotation,'' Antonetti said. ''If that doesn't happen, he'll be a candidate for the bullpen as well.

''More than anything, we think Josh is an effective major league pitcher, whether it's as a starter or a reliever. So you can never have enough quality pitching. Having that contract value is one that makes sense for us.''

The Indians obtained Moss from Oakland in the first trade of the winter meetings last month, hoping to add power to their lineup. The 31-year-old outfielder batted .234 with 25 homers and 81 RBIs in 147 games for the Athletics last season. A hip injury limited him in the second half of the season, and he had surgery when it was over.

''He's progressing well,'' Antonetti said. ''His timetable remains the same. Hopefully he'll be in games at some point in spring training and ready for the start of the season.''

Shaw went 5-5 with a 2.59 ERA last season in a career-high 80 appearances with two saves.
