Blackmon, Tulowitzki lead Rockies past Brewers 10-4

DENVER (AP) The Colorado Rockies' offense is beginning to catch up to Troy Tulowitzki's hot bat.

Charlie Blackmon drove in four runs, Tulowitzki had three RBIs and the Rockies beat the skidding Milwaukee Brewers 10-4 on Sunday.

Nick Hundley had four hits and Nolan Arenado led off Colorado's three-run fourth inning with his 17th homer as the Rockies broke loose for their most runs since scoring 11 against St. Louis on June 8. They averaged 3.2 runs in their previous 12 games before Sunday.

Colorado has its first two-game winning streak in two weeks, but Tulowitzki is not to blame. The All-Star shortstop had two hits Sunday and has reached base in 21 straight games.

He isn't celebrating, though, despite hitting .394 since May 29.

''I feel OK. I need to be better,'' Tulowitzki said after hitting safely for the 18th time in 19 games. ''I need to be a better player. I haven't been playing the way I want myself to play, let's put it that way.''

All 10 runs came off Matt Garza, who allowed 13 hits for the second straight start.

It wasn't entirely good news for the Rockies. Star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez left in the fifth with a mild sprain of his left hand. He was injured when he flied out in the third.

Gonzalez played the field in the fourth and banged into the right-field wall trying to make a leaping catch of Ryan Braun's leadoff triple. Braun scored on a groundout to pull Milwaukee to 3-2.

X-rays were negative and Gonzalez was wearing a heavy wrap on his left hand.

''I took a couple of dry swings and it was sore so they decided to take me out of the game and do treatment,'' Gonzalez said. ''No bone problems. Hopefully it's nothing bad.''

Braun also doubled for the Brewers, who have lost eight of nine.

''Wasn't good today,'' manager Craig Counsell said. ''Just regroup and get back at it on Tuesday.''

Rockies starter Chris Rusin (3-2) stopped his two-game skid. He allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings to win for the first time since June 6.

Tulowitzki and Blackmon did much of the damage offensively.

Blackmon hit a two-run single in the fourth and an RBI single in the sixth. Tulowitzki drove in two runs in the sixth when the Rockies scored four times to take a 10-3 lead.

''It's nice to score some runs. Our main thing is winning a series, especially at home,'' Tulowitzki said. ''We haven't been doing that of late. A lot of things we did good today we haven't been doing well.''

Blackmon and Tulowitzki each had an RBI in the third when Colorado went ahead 3-1. Garza was hurt by an error on second baseman Hernan Perez that led to three unearned runs in the inning.

Garza (4-9) allowed seven earned runs in 5 1-3 innings, raising his ERA to 5.48.

''It hasn't been my year,'' Garza said. ''Everything has been just falling the right way. You can only keep working. It is frustrating.''

Hundley looked sharp after getting the day off Saturday. The catcher tied his career highs for hits and runs (three). Hundley, who came into the season batting .238 in his major league career, raised his average to .302.

''This is as consistent as I've been in my career,'' Hundley said. ''I've always been able to get hot, and when I get cold I get real cold.''

TRAINER'S ROOM

Brewers: OF Carlos Gomez was going to run the bases and take fly balls before the game to test his ailing right hip. Counsell said if everything went well Gomez could play Tuesday against the Mets. He has missed six of the last seven games.

Rockies: Relief pitcher Rafael Betancourt (vertigo symptoms) was scheduled to pitch in a rehab assignment. If the right-hander has no setbacks he could be activated for Tuesday's game against Arizona. Betancourt is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Monday, an off day.

Brewers: RHP Mike Fiers (3-7, 4.50 ERA) opens a three-game series against the Mets on Tuesday night. Fiers is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in two career games - one start - against New York.

Rockies: RHP Kyle Kendrick (2-9, 5.95) gets the start to open Colorado's three-game series against Arizona. Kendrick is winless in six starts at Coors Field this season.
