Conor McGregor on throwing water bottles: I thought Nate Diaz was dehydrated

He later said that he was defending himself from Diaz's aggression.

The UFC 202 press conference on Wednesday descended into bedlam shortly after the arrival of featherweight champion Conor McGregor. After McGregor walked on stage roughly 30 minutes late, his UFC 202 opponent Nate Diaz sat for a couple of questions before walking off with his team, inciting a war of words and middle fingers.

Diaz tossed a water bottle from near the exit at the back of the theater in the direction of McGregor's entourage, which lead to McGregor throwing every water bottle and can of Monster he could find on stage back in the direction of Diaz.

When McGregor made an appearance later on UFC Tonight, he offered a humorous explanation for his antics.

"Look, I don't know. I saw people panicking up in the stands, and I thought maybe it's a case of dehydration. I don't know what was going on, I was simply launching up some hydration for people. We're around the desert here, it's intense," McGregor said.

McGregor tried to offered up a slightly more serious explanation.

"I don't know. In reality, they were walking out, talking s---, throwing bottles. If you want to fight, let's fight," he said. "It was nothing. I don't know what happened, I just defended myself and that's it."

UFC 202 is on Saturday.
