Dexter McCluster may not have taken off as a wide receiver the way the Chiefs envisioned when they took him with a second-round pick in 2010. He still has been a dangerous weapon at times, mainly in the return game -- he led the league in punt-return yards last season.

Tennessee will be paying for that special-teams presence with the hope that McCluster can crank it up a bit as a receiver, too. The Titans signed McCluster to a three-year deal Tuesday. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the McCluster will take home $4.5 million in guaranteed money and the contract could be worth as much as $12 million total.

There did not appear to be a major need at receiver for the Titans, even as Kenny Britt hit the market Tuesday. Back for the 2014 season -- at least as things stand now -- will be Nate Washington, 2012 first-round pick Kendall Wright and 2013 second-rounder Justin Hunter. Their presences may pair perfectly with McCluster, who probably is best-suited to play a role deeper down the depth chart on offense.

What Tennessee did not have before Tuesday was any obvious front-runners to handle kickoff or punt-return duties. McCluster should step in there, possibly on both units.
