St. Louis Rams release depth chart: Michael Sam third string at DE
The biggest story of St. Louis Rams training camp has been rookie Michael Sam, who could be facing an uphill battle in trying to make the team. He's listed third string, at right defensive end, on the depth chart released Aug. 4 by the team. If Sam makes the final roster he will become the first openly gay player to compete in the NFL, though he has said he's not trying to be a "trailblazer."
The Rams open their preseason schedule with an Aug. 8 game against the New Orleans Saints. NFL teams must trim their roster to 75 players by 2 p.m. EDT, Aug. 26, and to 53 players by 2 p.m. Aug. 30.
Also of note on the Rams' recent depth chart is that wide receiver Kenny Britt is listed first in his grouping. He was a notable offseason signing for the Rams, reuniting with former coach Jeff Fisher after a disappointing final season with the Tennessee Titans.
