Kellen Mond Discusses His Workout with the 49ers

"Figured it was a good opportunity for me to come out and throw. Something I was already kind of familiar with, with the system out here, just being with Klint Kubiak back my rookie year."

SANTA CLARA -- Kellen Mond worked out at the 49ers local Pro Day on Wednesday. Here's what he said afterward.

Q: How did this come about?

MOND: "I was just contacted by my agent a few days ago. Figured it was a good opportunity for me to come out and throw. Something I was already kind of familiar with, with the system out here, just being with Klint Kubiak back my rookie year, so a lot of the verbiage was already pretty smooth. Just getting another opportunity to throw is always good for me."

Q: Is this a system that you think you're well suited for?

MOND: "I would definitely say so. As years go on, certain terminology changes, but the core of it is something I would definitely be familiar with."

Q: Any feedback from Kyle Shanahan or John Lynch?

MOND: "Not yet. I'll probably meet with them before I leave."

Q: Are you hoping that this turns into a contract offer, that you could be part of camp here?

MOND: "Definitely. I think any time you're able to get an opportunity and just be able to show you can pick up the playbook and operate, and also be able to show accuracy, anticipation and things like that. Sometimes it's a little weird when you're throwing to guys you've never thrown to before, but they definitely did a good job."

Q: How are you a different player than you were at Texas A&M?

MOND: "My mechanics have definitely changed a lot for the better. Just being in the league, coming up on my fourth year, you're not the same player you were when you were a rookie. You continue to grow and improve on your accuracy and your operation skills. Just have to be ready for when your time comes."
