Ducks score six goals in 2nd period to beat Avs in wild game

The last time the Colorado Avalanche and Anaheim Ducks faced off, it was on the first night of regular season action and the two teams went on to provide plenty of it. And though no fights broke out between the two coaches this time, Friday night still brought its fair share of drama.

The Avalanche took a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period. That's when the fireworks started. The two teams would go back and forth in the 2nd period, lighting the lamp nine times, with Anaheim tallying six of their own to take a 6-4 lead into the 3rd. Four of those six goals for the Ducks were scored in just 4:06, with forward Kyle Palmieri potting two of his own in just :47 seconds, followed by one each from Corey Perry and Ben Lovejoy.

But Colorado would answer right back, scoring two goals in just :33 seconds, highlighted by captain Gabriel Landeskog's 20th of the season that brought the Avs back within one.

Thirty seconds later, Anaheim's Mathieu Perreault would add the game's final marker against Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who replaced Semyon Varlamov in front of the net earlier in the period.

While there were no goals in the 3rd period, there was certainly no shortage of excitement, starting with Landeskog's big hit on Anaheim's Daniel Winnik, leading to a two-minute charging penalty.

During the ensuing power play, Avs defenseman Erik Johnson received a match penalty for this little encounter with Perreault in the corner:

Minutes later, Ryan Getzlaf would shove Avs forward Maxime Talbot through the Ducks' open bench door, causing a skirmish that would lead to game misconducts for Avs forward Patrick Bordeleau and Ducks forward Patrick Maroon.

Anaheim winger Corey Perry would also join in on the action, letting Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy know that he remembers Roy's actions from back on opening night.
