The Minnesota Twins designated veteran pitcher Jason Marquis for assignment Tuesday, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Marquis was 2-4 with an 8.47 ERA in seven starts this season. He was rocked for eight runs in 1 2/3 innings Sunday in a 16-4 loss to the Brewers.

The Twins have 10 days to trade, release or demote Marquis, and the Star Tribune reports indications are that he will be released. The team recalled pitcher Cole De Vries from the minor league to fill Marquis' roster spot.
