Report: Mets pitcher injures himself celebrating Johan Santana's no-hitter

Mets relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez injured his hamstring while celebrating Johan Santana's no-hitter Friday night. He joins a memorable list of athletes injured while celebrating that includes the likes of NFL kicker Bill Gramatica (ACL tear), NFL quarterback Gus Frerotte (headbutt) and, most recently, Angels outfielder Kendrys Morales (broken leg).

The New York Post's Joel Sherman first reported that fellow relief pitcher Elvin Ramirez had been injured. Then he fixed it with Ramon Ramirez, confirming a report from ESPN's Adam Rubin.

If Sherman's original report holds true for Ramon Ramirez, he will likely be placed on the disabled list soon.

Ramirez was 2-1 this season with a 4.78 ERA and 1.52 WHIP coming out of the Mets bullpen. He had 25 strikeouts and 11 walks in 26 1/3 innings pitched.
