The Yankees have announced Alex Rodriguez has been assigned a second minor league injury rehabilitation assignment Friday and Saturday with their Double-A affiliate Trenton. The Yankees' plans could change if Rodriguez is suspended as part of Major League Baseball's Biogenesis investigation.

USA Todayreported Wednesday that Commissioner Bud Selig is prepared to place a lifetime suspension on Rodriguez. His attorney, David Cornwell, has said he will appeal any suspension.

Rodriguez played in a simulated game at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa Thursday. The ballpark and game was closed to the media who watched from a walkway behind the right-field bullpen.

According to the Associated Press, Rodriguez had several at-bats, played third and ran bases during the simulated game.
