Report: Vikings, Matt Cassel agree on two-year, $10 million deal

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a two-year deal with quarterback Matt Cassel, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Cassel joined the Vikings as a backup last season and started six games for the team while Christian Ponder recovered from a rib injury, and eventually winning the starter role for the seasons final four games

The former Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback had drawn some interest from the Houston Texans, but new Vikings coach Mike Zimmer told the Associated Press earlier in the week that he wished to keep Cassel on the roster.

"I would love to have Matt Cassel back if Matt Cassel wants to be back,'' Zimmer said Thursday. ''I don't know if that will happen or won't happen."

Cassel's new contract is worth a total of $ 10 million, reports Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
