Rockies' Brett Anderson out 4-6 weeks with broken finger

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Brett Anderson will be out four to six weeks with a broken finger on his left pitching hand, the team said Sunday.

The Denver Post's Troy Renck reported that Anderson's return depends on how quickly his finger heals to the point where it allows him to grip the ball. He suffered the injury Saturday while batting, when he hit a 93 mile-per-hour pitch from San Francisco Giants' pitcher Matt Cain off the end of the bat. He was unable to re-enter the game to pitch the next inning.

"I knew something was wrong," Anderson said, according to the Post. "It's unfortunate. It's hard to believe. I have that shadow of the injury bug around me. But there was nothing I could do."

The 26-year-old Anderson has dealt with numerous injuries over the past three years. He was acquired by the Rockies last December in a trade with the Oakland Athletics.

In three starts so far this year, Anderson was 0-2 with a 3.60 ERA.
