The St. Louis Cardinals placed pitcher Joe Kelly on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain, the team announced Thursday.

Kelly was injured during Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers after trying to leg out a bunt to first base in the top of the fifth inning. Kelly pitched four innings against Milwaukee, giving up three hits and an unearned run and earning a loss.

After the game, he was sent back to St. Louis for further examination. The team recalled rookie right-handers Eric Fornataro and Jorge Rondon from Triple-A Memphis and optioned reliever Keith Butler to Memphis.

In three starts this season, Kelly is 1-1 with a 0.59 ERA, giving up just one earned run in 15.1 innings pitched.
