New York Yankees starting pitcher Ivan Nova has chosen to undergo Tommy John surgery with Dr. James Andrews next Tuesday, per multiplereports.

The Yankees placed Nova on the 15-day DL last week with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. After a re-examination confirmed the tear in his UCL, Nova opted for surgery, becoming the 15th MLB pitcher already to undergo the treatment this season. The news constitutes another blow to the Yankee rotation, after the team lost Michael Pineda Thursday to a 10-game suspension.
