The Texas Rangers have inquired with the Washington Nationals about a potential trade for first baseman/outfielder Tyler Moore, MLB.com’s Bill Ladson reported Sunday, citing a "baseball source."

The trade rumors surfaced just days after the Rangers lost first baseman Prince Fielder for the season because of a herniated disc in his neck. But the source told Ladson the discussions aren't yet serious — and Moore is one of many potential targets to replace Fielder.

Moore has become more expendable because of the return of the Nationals' Adam LaRoche, who came back to the team's lineup Sunday. Moore is batting just .209 with three homers and nine RBI in 31 games this season.

Without Fielder, the Rangers have turned to 28-year-old Mitch Moreland at first base. He is batting .285 with two homers, 21 RBI and a .764 OPS this season.
