The clubhouse of Dutch soccer team AFC Ajax suffered significant damage when it burned down on Friday, the club announced.

According to the NL Times, a fire broke out at the clubhouse located near the Amsterdam Arena on Thursday. Reports of the blaze came in at at 3:30 Friday morning.

No one was in the building at the time and local officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, which was under control in about three hours.

"This is a huge blow for our supporters and the club. The home supporters for many is of great value and was on match well attended by our fans," Ajax director Jeroen Slop said. "There is unfortunately not much left of it. As far as known no one was happy in the present building but the damage is significant."

It's second time in the past 10 years that Ajax’s clubhouse has burned down. In January 2005, the supporters home burned as a result of arson.

Ajax is currently second in the Eredivisie league, two points behind PSV. Ajax takes on Feyenoord on Sunday.
