Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been suspended three games by the FA for violent conduct during Saturday’s game against West Ham.

Schweinsteiger has accepted the punishment and will miss United’s next three matches after elbowing West Ham’s Winston Reid in face in the 40th minute of Saturday’s 0–0 draw. Match officials missed the incident during the game, but Schweinsteiger’s actions were caught on video review.

The BBC reports a panel of three referees reviewed the footage independently and all came to the same conclusion, that the offense would have warranted a red card.

The 31-year-old will miss matches against Bournemouth, Norwich and Stoke and is eligible to return against Chelsea Dec. 28.
