MLS: Dynamo score late winner vs. Union, Sounders draw TFC, more
DYNAMO 1, UNION 0
HOUSTON (AP) — Cristian Maidana scored against his former team in the 95th minute and the Houston Dynamo beat the 10-man Philadelphia Union 1-0 on Saturday night.
Maidana's left-footed free kick clipped the bottom of the crossbar and the game ended shortly after the ensuing kickoff. Boniek Garcia drew the foul near the penalty arc against the Union's Warren Creavelle.
Joshua Yaro was sent off in the 87th minute when he received his second yellow card for a challenge that dropped Mauro Manotas to the turf near the 18-yard box.
Maidana joined the Dynamo (4-8-5) in 2016 after two seasons as a full-time starter in Philadelphia.
The Dynamo moved into a last-place tie with Seattle in the Western Conference while the Union (7-6-5) stayed two points ahead of Montreal for first place in the East.
SOUNDERS 1, TORONTO FC 1
TORONTO (AP) — Jordan Morris scored in the 61st minute goal to lift the Seattle Sounders to a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC on Saturday night.
Seattle almost won it in the 87th when Morris' raking cross came within inches of bouncing in. But defender Mark Bloom got a piece of his body on the ball to deflect it away.
Jordan Hamilton scored in the 60th to give Toronto (5-6-5) the lead. Sebastian Giovinco's shot was stopped by goalkeeper Stefan Frei but the ball bounced to an unmarked Hamilton, who stroked a left-footed shot home.
However, seconds after Hamilton emerged from his celebrations with the south side fans, Seattle left back Joevin Jones' long ball found Morris and the Sounders' rookie striker curled a shot past Alex Bono for his sixth of the season.
Morris' goal, only the Sounders' 14th of the season, ended a 248-minute Seattle (5-9-2) scoring drought.
IMPACT 3, REVOLUTION 2
MONTREAL (AP) — Rookie forward Michael Salazar scored his first two MLS goals and Ignacio Piatti converted a penalty kick to give the Montreal Impact a 3-2 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday.
The 23-year-old Salazar made his first career start in place of Didier Drogba, out with a leg injury.
After the Impact (6-4-6) rallied from two goals down to even the score, Piatti scored the tiebreaker for his 10th of the season after he was tripped in the penalty area by New England goalie Brad Knighton in the 54th minute.
Kei Kamara scored twice to put New England (4-6-7), playing its third straight road game, up 2-0 in the 33rd minute.
Salazar got Montreal on the scoreboard in the 40th and then tied it in the 48th.
The Impact were also without midfielder Lucas Ontiveri (flu), fullback Donny Toia and midfielder Marco Donadel.
