MLS results: Robbie Keane’s goal gives Galaxy a win over Sounders
SEATTLE (AP) — Robbie Keane scored in the 15th minute, leading the Los Angeles Galaxy to a 1–0 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday.
It was Keane’s sixth goal of the season for the Galaxy (7-3-8, 29 points), who were outshot 22–7, but still won their second straight after a seven-game winless streak.
The goal came on a counterattack. Defender Dave Romney gained possession on the L.A. side of midfield and sent a long through ball down the left wing. Gyasi Zardes caught up with it and took it into the penalty area, crossing it toward the middle. Keane ran onto it and drove it past goalkeeper Stefan Frei.
The Sounders (5-10-2, 17 points) are winless in their last four games. Sounders forward Clint Dempsey returned after missing five games while playing for the U.S. national team in Copa America.
UNION 3, UNITED 0
CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Ilsinho scored in each half, helping Union beat 10-man D.C. United.
Roland Alberg opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 20th minute. Ilsinho converted from the spot in the 37th for his first career MLS goal.
Ilsinho’s second goal came in the 47th when C.J. Sapong headed Alberg’s free kick back into the middle of the area and Ilsinho smashed it into the far corner.
The Union (8-6-5) moved within one point of East-leading New York City FC.
Kofi Opare put United (5-7-6) down a man when he was sent off in the 65th minute.
TORONTO FC 1, FIRE 0
TORONTO (AP) — Justin Morrow scored in the ninth minute, leading Toronto FC to the victory.
Morrow ran onto a through ball from Sebastian Giovinco. The pass perfectly split the Chicago back line and the only player Morrow had to beat was teammate Jordan Hamilton.
Morrow had the better angle to the shot and Hamilton wisely gave way, allowing the defender to score his second of the season.
The win vaults Toronto (6-6-5) ahead of two teams and back into the MLS playoff picture.
The Fire (3-8-5) struggled offensively, but nearly got the tying score when Kennedy Igboananike cut inside and tried a curling right-footed shot that rattled the crossbar in the 64th minute.
REVOLUTION 3, CREW 1
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Lee Nguyen and Kei Kamara scored, and New England stopped a three-game losing streak.
Nguyen opened the scoring in the third minute for the Revs (5-7-7). He chest-trapped a failed clearance and volleyed it into the upper-left corner for his fifth goal of the season.
A pair of Crew defenders inadvertently ran into each other in the 71st minute, creating a wide-open look which Kei Kamara easily finished to cap the scoring against his former team.
Columbus’s Will Trapp scored an own goal on a botched clearance attempt that gave the Revolution a 2–0 lead in the 34th minute.
The Crew (3-7-7) got on the board in the 42nd minute when Ola Kamara scored his eighth goal in 11 games.
