WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) The U.S. Tennis Association says it will name its Grand Slam tournament's press room the ''Bud Collins U.S. Open Media Center'' to honor the veteran journalist and historian of the sport.

A plaque will be unveiled during the U.S. Open next month.

The USTA Board of Directors unanimously approved the honor for Collins.

USTA Chairman of the Board and President Katrina Adams says: ''Few people have contributed as much to the sport of tennis as Bud has.''

Collins was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1994, and is considered one of the foremost authorities on the sport, thanks in part to his decades of work for The Boston Globe and NBC.
