Pat Venditte is Major League Baseball’s only switch pitcher, a skill set that can create a lot of lineup trouble and general confusion for the opposing team.

The prospect of facing a pitcher who may throw from either hand was so odd to Rangers star Adrian Beltre that he responded with some absurdity of his own on Monday night, putting his batting helmet on backwards before stepping into the batter’s box to face the Mariners pitcher.

The third baseman did not seem to be befuddled by the pitcher once the at-bat began, as he turned the third pitch he saw into a double.

Texas had plenty more to smile about after the game as well, defeating Seattle 6–3 to improve to 78–54 on the season.
