Is Anthony Davis Playing Tonight? (Injury Update, Betting Impact for Mavericks vs. Jazz)

Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis is back on the injury report ahead of Monday's game against the Utah Jazz.
Davis is listed as questionable with a left calf contusion, the same calf that caused him to miss 14 games in a row earlier this season. Now, this is a different injury designation for Davis, as he previously missed time with a calf strain, not a contusion.

Davis has appeared in Dallas' past six games after missing 14 consecutive games with a left calf strain.
The star big man has appeared in the last six games for Dallas, and the Mavericks are over .500 (6-5) in the 11 games that he's appeared in this season. Davis is averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 51.7 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from beyond the arc.
With Dereck Lively II (foot) out for the season, Dallas can't afford another lengthy absence for Davis if it wants to remain in the playoff race in the Western Conference. The Mavericks currently hold the No. 10 seed in the West and have six of their last 10 games.
On Monday, oddsmakers have the Mavericks as 1.5-point road favorites against Utah. That could be a sign that the betting market expects Davis to play, as Utah has been surprisingly solid at home, going 6-7 straight up.
If Davis does sit, the Mavs may move to underdogs in this game, as they don't have a ton of offensive firepower with Kyrie Irving (knee) already out of the lineup.
Here's a look at my favorite prop bet for Dallas with Davis' status in question on Monday.

Anthony Davis OVER 23.5 Points (-111)
Davis is only averaging 20.0 points per game this season, but that average is being dragged down by two of the 11 games that he's played in. Davis scored just four points against Indiana earlier this season when he was injured in the first quarter and did not return.
That was the start of Davis' first calf issue that cost him 14 games. Then, the star forward had a two-point showing back on Dec. 5 in a blowout loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder. In his nine other games, Davis has 24 or more points six times.
So, I think he's worth a look against a Utah defense that is just 29th in the NBA in defensive rating and 29th in opponent points per game. The Jazz have also struggled to defend the rim with Walker Kessler out for the season, ranking 18th in opponent points in the paint per game.
If he's able to play through this calf issue, Davis is worth a shot in this market on Monday night.
