Texas Tech receiver Jakeem Grant injured after off-campus incident
Texas Tech wide receiver Jakeem Grant was injured after a reported off-campus shooting in Lubbock, Texas, on Sunday morning, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
According to the paper, more than 20 rounds were fired from multiple guns during an altercation about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Grant was sent to the hospital and was treated and released. A school spokesman said Grant was “doing well.”
The school said that they are not sure if Grant will be sidelined because of the undisclosed injury, but according to FOX34 in Lubbock, Grant was stabbed in the neck during the incident.
“Tech has confirmed that it was one of their football players, but his involvement, I don’t know,” Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Bryan Taylor said. “I don’t know if he was involved in the altercation or if he just caught part of the assault. It’s my understanding that he had a laceration, so it may have been a knife wound.”
Grant leads the Red Raiders with 50 catches for 629 yards and five touchdowns this season, including catching six passes for 72 yards in Texas Tech’s 31-24 win over Kansas on Saturday.
No arrests have been made in the incident as of Sunday night, according to the paper.
Texas Tech (3-4, 1-3 Big 12) plays at tenth-ranked TCU (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) on Saturday.
