Wake Forest, Appalachian State agree to home-and-home series

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Appalachian State Mountaineers have agreed to a football home-and-home series with games to be played in 2017 and 2020, Appalachian State announced Thursday.

Wake Forest and Appalachian State have agreed to a home-and-home series with games to be played in 2017 and 2020, Appalachian State announced Thursday.

The Demon Deacons and Mountaineers played 22 times from 1975 to 2001, but haven’t met since. Wake Forest holds a 14-7-1 advantage.

The series will begin Sept. 23, 2017, with a game at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, N.C., home of the Mountaineers, before resuming on Sept. 12, 2020, in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the return game at Wake Forest.

Each of the schools’ previous meetings took place when Appalachian State competed at the Division I-AA/FCS level. The Mountaineers began their transition to FBS this season. They play in the Sun Belt Conference. 

The schools are separated by only 88 miles.
