Ohio State's Urban Meyer says fighting Michigan won't be tolerated
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer vowed to punish any player who misbehaves or gets into a fight during the game against Michigan on Saturday, according to ESPN.com.
Last season, Ohio State running back Dontre Wilson and offensive guard Marcus Hall were ejected from the game after a second-quarter scrum with Michigan. Hall was suspended for the Big Ten championship game against Michigan State the next week because of the fight.
"I had a talk with our team about that, and absolutely no case for that," Meyer said, according to ESPN.com. "Intensity? Absolutely. There's a certain mentality we need to take to this field, but that's not acceptable."
Meyer talked about the impact it had when players were suspended from the conference title against Michigan State.
"That's not the way we play the game, and I think a lot of lessons were learned. We went without one of our key linemen in the [conference] championship game the following week, and we played a game without two or three good players. That was a very strong conversation in the team meeting."
Ohio State (10-1, 7-0 Big Ten) has already clinched a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game. Michigan has won only one time in the rivalry since its victory over the Buckeyes in 2003.
