Cook says he has more to accomplish at Michigan St

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook indicated Tuesday he plans to be back with the Spartans as a senior.

''I've sat down and talked to my family. The main goal is obviously to come back,'' Cook said. ''Talked among them, talked among my friends, with the coaches. I have unfinished business that I want to do, that I want to accomplish next year.''

Cook has thrown for 2,900 yards this season with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions. The seventh-ranked Spartans play fourth-ranked Baylor in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 1.

The 6-foot-4 Cook took a big step forward at the end of the 2013 season, when he guided Michigan State to a Big Ten title and a win in the Rose Bowl. He's been impressive as a junior as well.

Cook said he wants to improve his running ability.

''If I drop back and guys are covered, then I can scramble and get some yards,'' Cook said. ''Not trying to be a dual-threat quarterback in any means, but if I have to get four or five yards, just be more of a threat with my feet - and then use the running back more. ... You look at guys in the NFL, guys that make a living off of throwing to the back. That's why their completion percentage is so high.''

Defensive end Shilique Calhoun, another junior, said he is not yet focused on his decision on whether to turn pro.

''I would have to discuss that with my family, just how they feel about it,'' Calhoun said. ''That's just something that's on the back burner.''
