The Seminoles won the national championship last season and have not lost a game since 2012.
Their 13-0 season has been clouded by off-field controversies, including a sexual assault accusation against quarterback Jameis Winston and reports suggesting the Tallahassee police department gave a player a "break" in a car accident.
Florida State is the only undefeated team in the College Football Playoff, but it has mounted several second-half comebacks and won many of its games by narrow margins.
According to the betting website Bovada, No.3 Florida State is a nine-point underdog in its upcoming matchup with No. 2 Oregon in the Rose Bowl, one of two playoff semifinal games.
Northrup said that he and his teammates will enter the game "with a chip on our shoulder" and that he doesn't think Oregon has seen a team "like us."
From the report:
"Everybody don't like us," Northrup said. "We gonna come in there with a chip on our shoulder and go in there and perform, do what we know how to do. (We're) excited to take on this challenge against Oregon.
"I feel like they haven't seen a team like us before. I feel like we've seen teams like them before - it might be a little bit different, they do the fast pace stuff, but they haven't played against anybody like us before, I personally feel."
