Syracuse's George McDonald to become NC State WRs coach
Syracuse wide receivers coach George McDonald has accepted the same position at North Carolina State, according to a source.
This season was McDonald’s second as the Orange’s offensive coordinator and assistant head coach, but he was demoted in October to wide receivers coach after a 2-3 start. Syracuse only won one game the rest of the season.
McDonald’s hiring at North Carolina State reunites him and Wolfpack offensive coordinator Matt Canada, who coached together at Northern Illinois from 2001-03. McDonald replaces wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson, who was hired in 2012.

Prior to becoming Syracuse’s offensive coordinator in January 2013, McDonald was wide receivers coach at Arkansas for less than a month after the 2012 season. A reputed South Florida recruiter, he was an assistant at Miami from 2011-12, first as wide receivers coach before adding passing game coordinator duties his second season.
The 38-year-old McDonald was a quality control coach for the Cleveland Browns for less than three months in 2009 before being promoted to wide receivers coach for the next two seasons. He coached wide receivers at Minnesota from 2007-08 and was Western Michigan’s offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach the two years before.
The Buena Park, Calif. product coached tight ends at Stanford in 2004 prior to his stint at Northern Illinois with Canada. He got his start coaching college at Ball State in 2000 as a graduate assistant and played wide receiver at Illinois from 1994-98.
After a 3-9 record in a rebuilding campaign last season, second-year North Carolina State head coach Dave Doeren went 8-5 this season with a 34-27 win against Central Florida in the St. Petersburg Bowl.
