Vanderbilt QB Patton Robinette retires, citing health concerns
Vanderbilt redshirt junior quarterback Patton Robinette has retired from football, citing concerns about his health, he announced on Friday.
Robinette, 22, participated in spring practice, but he will now enroll in the Vanderbilt School of Medicine to study orthopedics.
He informed his teammates of his decision during a meeting on Friday.
"This has been a very difficult decision to make," Robinette said. "This team means the world to me and I love playing football more than anything. It's been tough coming to a decision that is right for my family and I, and protects my health and future.
"I've been very deliberate in coming to this decision. It's difficult but I'm really excited to move forward to the next chapter of my life and really to see what the field of medicine has in store for me," Robinette added.

Robinette was the team’s starting quarterback to open the 2014 season, but he went on to miss six games with injuries. He hurt his knee in the season opener and also suffered a concussion later in the season.
During his two seasons with the Commodores, he completed 57.4% of his passes for 1,096 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions in 16 appearances.
